Why I Created the Canine Core Mat

As a certified canine fitness instructor (CCFT), I’ve spent countless hours helping students fine-tune their dog’s posture and movement. One of the biggest challenges I kept seeing? Finding a reliable way to assess a dog’s balance and alignment during exercises. That’s where the idea for the Canine Core Mat was born.

Helping Students See Balanced Stands More Clearly

When teaching canine fitness, it’s critical to ensure dogs are standing in a balanced, well-aligned position before beginning a fitness behavior and ending a fitness behavior. But without clear visual markers, it can be difficult to tell if their dog’s stand is truly even. The Canine Core Mat solves this problem by providing precise measurement lines so you can easily see if your dog’s front and back paws are positioned correctly. This allows for better training, better posture, and a stronger, healthier dog.

Creating a Safe, Non-Slip Surface for Home Workouts

Another issue I wanted to solve was slippery floors. Many students practice at home on hardwood, tile, or laminate flooring—surfaces that aren’t ideal for fitness exercises. Slipping can lead to poor form, frustration, and even injury. While rubber gym flooring is a great solution, it’s also expensive and not always practical for home use. That’s why I designed the Canine Core Mat with a non-slip, grippy surface—so dogs can move safely and confidently while exercising anywhere.
